36th World Wide SketchCrawl Update

A day out sketching was inspiring and made me realize once again the need to keep sketching to get better.  It was an interesting experience to be out sketching at the same time as others across the world.  In viewing many of the posts from sketches done on Saturday, June 14, there are many different styles and approaches which are great to see.  And what fantastic places to sketch, ranging from Paris, London, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Boston - the images of all of those places and more are wonderful.

Here I am in the Square on Main Street near the fountain and the Saturday Farmers Market.
Check out the posts by all of the participants on the SketchCrawl website:
and I have posted my sketches to that website too: as a Newbie Crawler since this was my first time participating in the SketchCrawl events.

It is neat to see that I will have my sketchbook on display at the school that my son, Brian, graduated from - - Winter Park, FL  Full Sail University  Opening Times: September 4- 5 2:00 - 6:00pm; this being among other exhibits, including Los Angeles (where my two sons live now) and London in October and Melbourne, Australia in November.  After the world tour, the sketchbooks will all reside in Brooklyn, New York at the Brooklyn Art Library http://www.arthousecoop.com/brooklynartlibrary.

Looking forward to seeing a group of sketchers (anyone is welcome) on Saturday sharing our work together as we sketch the sites around the Main Street architecture and the  beautiful Wisconsin River!  The Farmer's Market is in full swing and should also provide interesting views to sketch for the day (and provide good food for later)!

Please feel free to join us at 10:00 a.m. or at 1:00 p.m. starting out at the north side of the fountain in the square on Main Street downtown Stevens Point.
I will have a sign posted on my sketchbook - 36th WORLD WIDE SKETCHCRAWL. Be a part of a worldwide event!

Sketchers choose what and where they want to sketch. We will get together at the local coffee place (Coffee Studio on Main Street) to share our work at 4:00 p.m. later Saturday afternoon.
Post a note here if you are joining in or just show up on Saturday.

SketchCrawls around the world.  For more information on this Sketchcrawl and other Sketchcrawl Locations on July 14 (around the world), see the forum at this website:

Watercolor Sketching - a good experience!
Just finished teaching a Watercolor class with a focus on Sketching out and about - Urban Sketching and Travel sketching.  The students were all different majors and Carolyn Matthews was an advanced student who did travel sketching and blogging in New Zealand.  I listed the websites below, but the links don't always seem to work through blogspot, so you can copy and paste them into the address area of your browser if needed.

Carolyn Matthews Travel Sketches can be seen on this website:
Other students in the class posted their work on these Flickr websites.  Fun to see the variety with the different majors ranging from Spanish to Art to Natural Resources.

My Flickr site has a few watercolors too and is an informal post of trying out ideas and sketches: http://www.flickr.com/photos/katjulin/

Carolyn starts her blog, "Joyful Participation in the Life of the Planet:  Design to communicate, inspire, and foster positive change"  with a good quote:
